Business.?
Can I Get Into These Business Schools?
Hi, I am a junior at a prestigious public high school in New York (blue ribbon award and all that), and I was wondering if I have a chance at these business schools. I am asking a lot so I really appreciate that you have taken your time to review this question. My top two choices are USC and UT so at the very least please let me know if I have a chance there.
-USC (Marshall)
-University of Texas (McCombs)
-Emory University (Goizeuta)
-University of Virginia (McIntire)
-University of California-Berkeley (Haas)
-University of North Carolina (Kenan-Flagler)
-NYU (Sterns)
-UCLA
-University of Michigan (Ross)
-Indiana University (Kelley)
-Georgetown University (McDonough)
-Cornell University
-Villanova University
-Boston College (Carrol)
-Carnegie Mellon (Tepper)
-University of Richmond (Robbins)
-Lehigh University
-University of Maryland (Smith)
-University of Miami
-UPenn (Wharton)
Here are my credentials:
4.2 weighted GPA
3.6-3.8 unweighted GPA
SAT II for Math 2 (700 +), US History (650 +), Chemistry (maybe)
32 ACT
9 Honor Classes (Biology, Geometry, Chemistry, LA II (sophomore), Algebra 2, US History, Pre-Calculus, LA III (junior), LA IV (senior)
6 AP Classes (Chemistry, US History, Statistics - Junior year, Calculus, European History, Government- Senior year)
Extras:
-President of FBLA chapter at my High School (a nationally-renowned business club, kind of like the MUN of business)
-Placed in the top three in the state for my FBLA competition and competed at Nationals two years in a row.
-Participated in the Fed Challenge club (hyper competitive economics club). Also received a generic recommendation from Ben Bernanke.
-200 hours of volunteering
-Interned at a Pharmaceutical Company (business side of it) and a Marketing Firm during every summer in High School.
-Took a business credit course over one summer and earned 3 college credits.
PS:
-Is USC really in a terrible and dangerous location?
-Is University of Richmond ******?
-I also would like to know how difficult it is to get into a 2 year business program?
-Are there any differences between 2 year and 4 year business programs?
Thanks a lot.

Honestly, UT (McCombs) admissions are pretty brutal for out-of-state applicants. You have a good ACT score, but you didn’t list your class rank, which tends to be the thing that McCombs focuses on. If you’re really set on McCombs, you might want to apply to the College of Liberal Arts or to the Undergraduate Studies program and then internally transfer to McCombs. I know a bunch of kids that spent a year in the COLA and then internally transferred to McCombs.
As for your chances at the other schools, I’m not even going to pretend like I could give you an accurate assessment of your chances.
Is USC really in a terrible and dangerous location?
I’d describe the area as being shady and a place where I wouldn’t walk the streets at night by myself.
I also would like to know how difficult it is to get into a 2 year business program?
For a lot of the schools, you need basically a 3.5 GPA or higher, which isn’t too hard.
Are there any differences between 2 year and 4 year business programs?
With 4-year programs, you start taking business classes right away and you don’t have to worry about getting into the b-school.
In case you didn’t know, UCLA doesn’t have an undergrad business school, but they do have a Business Economics major, which is what most kids interested in business choose to study.
